I'm milking this for all it's worth: Dormouse is rehomed in coconut shell after being rescued from tea shop

The furry critter was rehomed in a coconut shell after being found in a cafe in Lyme Regis, Dorset

There's a good chance this dormouse has been dreaming of sipping Malibu and Coke through a tiny straw on a tropical beach... because his new home is a coconut shell.

The adorable creature was rehomed after he was seen scuttling across the floor of a tea shop in Lyme Regis, Dorset.

Perhaps he wanted a nice cuppa, just like the cute critter in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures In Wonderland.

He was scooped up by a visitor and taken to the Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre, near Highbridge in Somerset, where he promptly went into hibernation.

The snoring mouse was woken briefly when famous author Sir Terry Pratchett visited the centre to launch a £4.4million Call of the Wild Appeal for a new animal hospital.

Charity founder Pauline Kidner said the mouse occasionally woke briefly for a catkin flower snack before nodding off again.

Dormice are nocturnal and grow to up to 7.5in in length, weigh about seven ounces and can live up to five years.

They have an excellent sense of hearing, are omnivorous and feed on fruits, berries, flowers, nuts and insects.

During hibernation, they usually sleep in a tightly woven nest on the ground, often in a pile of leaves - as they like the damp and cool conditions.

This is in stark contrast to the arboreal lifestyle they lead in the active season.
