This squirrel had a fight on his paws when some hungry birds spotted him with a tasty snack.

The feisty creature had been happily nibbling on a cracker left by tourists in a park in Namibia when a group of weaver birds turned up.

Sensing a food fight, the ground squirrel clamped down on his savoury morsel as one of the birds took hold of the other end.

In the ensuing tug-of-war, the furry critter's determination paid off. He managed to hang on to the snack until the weavers conceded defeat.

The struggle was caught on camera by photographer Ignacio Yufera in Etosha National Park, Namibia.

The 44-year-old from Madrid, Spain, said: 'This southern African ground squirrel was feeding on biscuits probably left by a tourist.

'A group of weavers had spotted this and flown in to try and compete for the cracker.
'They weren't a match for the squirrel - he wasn't bothered by their efforts and pretty much ignored them.

'The birds may have picked some crumbs but weren't able to get hold of the main thing.'

He added: 'I didn't notice how funny it was until I was processing the pictures and could see the efforts of the weavers and the squirrel's nonchalant expression.'
