Daniel Baxter became enraged after Charlotte Greene resisted his advances on his return home from a drinking binge at 5am, The New York Daily News reported.
The 30-year-old, from Stockton, California, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after throwing the two-month old red-nosed pitbull against a wall.
The puppy, named Feisty, had to be put down after vets revealed her broken bones and brain damage would have left her unable to walk.
A tearful Greene claimed: ‘He woke her too hard, punched her and threw her against the wall. I told him to stop and then ran to the bathroom and started crying.
‘I just want him to get help, like anger management or a program for him to stop drinking.’
Baxter, who was already facing parole-violation charges, is being held without bail.
